Serrated Conical Contact Washers
The serrated conical contact washer is derived on or improves upon the Belleville Disc Spring fundamental design. The washer has the addition of radial serrations on both the lower/concave and upper/convex surfaces.
Application
These are used with high-strength bolts of the grade 8.8 - 10.9 without any restrictions. This extra strong safety washer has a greater thickness for higher pre-tensioning loads. When tightened to near capacity these serrations bite into the mating surfaces, thus preventing the loosening of the bolt from vibration and heat expansions effects. These disc spring washers out perform split-lock washers and spring washers in all Junker tests. Unsurprisingly, they come in sizes that match bolt sizes, and we manufacture up to M36.
Please avoid some of these mistakes when using this contact washer:
- They are not stack-able, and must be used alone
- Do not use them with a flat washer
- Do not use them upside down.
Base Materials
We default to SAE1075 Carbon Steel for our standard production which we harden to Rockwell C of between 46-50, and then double temper. However we also manufacture these contact washers from corrosion resistant Stainless Steel AISI301 / X12 CrNi 17-7 as well as AISI 316 / X5 CrNiMo 17-2. It should noted that neither of these stainless steels can be heat treated, and their hardening takes place through a work-hardening process which no matter how vigorous will never match that of properly heat treated Spring Steel.
